According to the police, there can be 2 reasons for the murder. Firstly, on November 6th last year, in Malkhedi village, the police killed Naxalite Sharda alias Pujje (25), in an encounter. Villagers say that the Naxalites may have killed both of them in retaliation for the death of their partner. Apart from this, another reason could be that on November 7th, the police had raided the forests of Lanji. During the raid, the police seized a large number of explosives and other items. According to villagers, the murder was held on suspicion of being an informer of the raid.

In the month of June, BhagchandAdame (42) resident of Bamhani village of Ukwa was shot by the Naxalites after abducting him  A threatening note was discovered from the dead body of the police informer, that warned the police officials. This murder was carried out by 10-12 Naxalites of Malajkhand. 2 days later, news came that the deceased Bhagchand was a former divisional vice-president of the BJP. Earlier on June 9th2020, SonuTekam, a resident of Poojaritola in Lanji, was also murdered on suspicion of being a police informer.
