4 Ghats to Monitor Sand Mining to be Set up

Bilaspur: In order to curb illegal sand mining in the state, the Mineral Dept has decided to open 4 sand ghats. Authorities involved in the say, report to have put forth the proposal before the govt for approval.
These ghats will be established in areas prone to illicit sand trade in the rural region of the state.
The new rules for sand mining adhere to the norms given by the Supreme Court. Moreover, any trader caught mining or transporting sand illegally would be charged under the Mining act. The rules also include benefits of two to ten per cent for informers of the mining.
CM Bhupesh Baghel a month ago issued a stern warning to collectors and SPs stating striction action if they fail to curb illegal sand mining in their respective districts in the state. He also said that cases should be lodged against those involved in illegal sand mining activities and vehicles used in unauthorised transportation should be seized, according to the official.
”Illegal sand mining should not take place in any district and if complaints are received in this regard, then collectors and SPs will be personally accountable for it. If action is not taken against illegal mining, the responsibility of the district officials will be fixed and strict disciplinary action will be taken against them,” the release quoted the chief minister as saying.
