41,965 Infections Logged; Southern States Emerge as Hotspot

New Delhi: India reported 41,965 fresh infections in the past 24 hours. The recovery rate at 97.51 per cent accounted for 33,964 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3,19,93,644. The daily positivity rate stood at 2.61 per cent.

The number of active cases stood at 3,78,181 accounting for 1.15  per cent of the total number of cases. The active cases reported a rise by 7,541 in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.34 per cent reported a spike in deaths recording 460 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,39,020.

 Kerala continued to report a surge n its daily infections. Furthermore, its neighbouring states Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, and Telangana have also reported a spike.  Rajasthan, Bihar, Madhya Pradesh, Gujarat, Chhattisgarh and Jharkhand have reported zero fatalities related to COVID-19, the Union Health ministry stated.

India on August 27, for the first time, crossed a milestone of administering 1 crore doses of the COVID-19 vaccine. In the last 24 hours, 1.33 crore beneficiaries were vaccinated under the nationwide vaccination drive, clocking another milestone. So far India has vaccinated 65.41 crore beneficiaries under the national immunization drive.
