New Delhi: India recorded 43,654 fresh infections in the past 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry reported. The recovery rate at 97.39 percent accounted for 41,678 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3,06,63,147. The daily positivity rate stood at 2.51 per cent, less than 5 per cent.

The active caseload stands at 3,99,436 accounting for 1.27 per cent of the total number of cases. 1,336  active cases were reported in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.34 per cent reported 640 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,22,022

The government on Tuesday issued a warning against any sort of laxity. “The pandemic is far from over… globally. We have to be careful… We may be tired, but not the virus, this is an alert for us,” said Dr VK Paul, chairman of the National Expert Committee on Vaccine Administration.

After much criticism over the centre’s statement in parliament that ‘no deaths have been reported due to the shortage of oxygen by states’, sources report the government has now sought data from states and union territories. The data is expected to be presented in the parliament before the end of the monsoon session next month.

Over 44.61 crore vaccine doses have been administered in the country so far, the health ministry said. 40,02,358 beneficiaries have been immunized in the past 24 hours.
