Bengaluru, Chennai Neighbourhoods Flooded; CM Announces Relief

Bengaluru: Lulled by heavy rains, parts of Bengaluru witnessed water logging. For nearly two hours, on Sunday night northern provinces of the state received heavy rainfall.

Allalasandra lake overflowed overnight flooding neighbouring regions. The Yelahanka, Nagavara, Kogilu Cross and Vidyaranyapura areas of Bengaluru were majorly affected by the rain. With a rainfall of 153 mm in the past 24 hours, Yelahanka reported heavy flooding.

Citing the reports submitted by Karnataka State Natural Disaster Monitoring Centre (KSNDMC), CM Basavaraj Bommai has ordered an immediate report on the compensation (of Rs 685 crores). Out of which Rs 130 crores have already been released for previous crop loss. “ This widespread unexpected rainfall due to depression in Bay of Bengal has led to a huge crop loss, he said. “ He also announced compensation of Rs 1 lakh to the victims of the catastrophe. “We have released Rs 500 crores for roads & bridges & have made emergency rescue teams all around the city, “ he further stated.

One of the largest tech parks in Bengaluru flooded following the incessant rains. Source informed massive waterlogging witnessed at Manyata tech park in Nagawara.

Meanwhile, several industrial pockets of Tamil Nadu’s capital were also submerged under the rains. Regions of Northern Chennai witnessed the spate of Kosasthalaiyar river. Boats have been deployed in some areas of northern Chennai to evacuate residents.
