Bijapur Police Patrol Attacked By Naxals, No Casualties Reported
Bijapur: Naxals attacked a police patrol in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur today. Superintendent of Police Anjaneya Vaishnav said today a team of central forces, District Reserve Police, and Chhattisgarh Arms Force rushed to Todka in the morning as the incident took place.
While there was firing from both sides, no casualties are reported as of now. Sources reveal that Naxals attacked the police with bombs near Sawar forest.
Earlier on March 31, Naxals detonated a bridge on Gangalur road, 20 kilometers from the district headquarters, and damaged it. The incident disconnected more than 20 villages. Bijapur Gangalur Road was constructed in 1917 and more than 15 soldiers were martyred during its condtruction.
Such incidents have threatened the security of Bijapur. Earlier on March 22, a suspected woman Maoist was shot dead in an encounter with security forces in a forest in Bijapur district. Security forces and National Investigation Agency (NIA) have tightened their security earlier this year after NIA arrested a wanted female Naxal cadre in Chhattisgarh’s Bijapur encounter case.
