Five different bills were tabled wherein Ministers, MLAs, chief whip, Speaker and Deputy Speaker along with the Leader of Opposition were also included. The members in Delhi Assembly stressed that the pay should commensurate with the work done by Legislators and also the rising prices of commodities.
BJP MLA and the Leader of Opposition also supported the pay hike bills. Finance Minister and Deputy Chief Minister of Delhi, Manish Sisodia in a statement said that the hike is necessary to invite new and good people in politics. He further added that the big corporates retain and take the services of talented people just because of their handsome pay packages.
Meanwhile, in December 2015, the AAP Government got a bill passed in the National Capital’s Assembly raising emoluments of MLAs to Rs. 2.10 Lakhs per month. CM Arvind Kejriwal approved that proposal in the cabinet meeting and sent it to the centre for approval.
