- Bird flu spreads in Madhya Pradesh.
- Collectors been instructed to take action.
- Migratory birds are being closely monitored.
Bhopal: Several outbreaks of severe bird flu in Madhya Pradesh have been reported in recent days. This came as a shock to the state that was already battling with the deadly Covid-19 pandemic. The spread of highly pathogenic avian influenza, commonly called bird flu, has put the poultry industry on alert. However, the government and administration are working hard to assure that the situation in the state does not worsen.
JN Kansotiya, Additional Chief Secretary, Madhya Pradesh Animal Husbandry and Dairy Department, has issued directions to keep a close eye on bird flu throughout the winter season. The collectors have been instructed to take action in accordance with the recommendations provided on the Central Government’s Avian Influenza Action Plan 2021 website, www.dahd.nic.in. A meeting of animal husbandry, forest, health, and other coordinating departments would be held to review the district’s preparation. In addition, migratory birds visiting the state’s reservoirs and wildlife reserves are being closely monitored.
Samples from migratory birds and chicken markets, as well as haat-bazaars in border districts with other states, have been ordered to be collected and sent to the State Animal Disease Investigation Lab in Bhopal for examination, as well as continuous surveillance and inspection during the winter season. In addition, if information of disease or unnatural death in birds or hens is received anywhere in the district, prompt action will be taken to prevent and control it.
