Chhattisgarh: Former chief minister of Chhattisgarh, Ajit Jogi died at a private hospital in Raipur in Chhattisgarh following cardiac arrest on Friday at . He was 74.
A stalwart politician, Ajit jogi was admitted in Shri Narayana Hospital,Raipur on May 9, after he suffered a cardiac and respiratory arrest. A short statement by Dr. Sunil Khemka, Director of the private hospital said Jogi died at 15:30 pm this afternoon.
Ajit jogi was admitted into intensive care unit (ICU) and was treated by a multi-disciplinary team of doctors after he suffered cardiac arrest. He was put on life-support system after his condition deteriorated.
Ajit Pramod Kumar Jogi (born 29 April 1946) was an Indian politician, who served as the first chief minister of Chhattisgarh from November 2000 to November 2003 in then Congress government, after the state was carved out from Madhya Pradesh. He was a former member of the Indian National Congress (INC) political party.
Born in Pendra, Bilaspur, Ajit Jogi worked in the Indian Police Service and then served in Indian Administrative Service after studying engineering. Later he came into politics under the tutelege of then Chief Minister of Madhya Pradesh Arjun Singh. He was also an MLA and MP. Later on 1 November 2000, when Chhattisgarh was formed, Ajit Jogi was the first Chief Minister of the state.
Jogi was elected as Member of Parliament for the first time for Mahasamund constituency from 2004 to 2009.
