BSF Jawan Fatally Wounded, 2 Assam Rifles Personnel Injured In Manipur

Manipur: Fresh violence erupted in Manipur, resulting in four fatalities. It includes a Border Security Force (BSF) jawan and injured six others in two separate gunfight incidents. On Monday night, the BSF jawan was fatally shot during a clash between insurgents and security forces in Serou village of Thoubal district. Two Assam Rifles jawans were also injured in the incident. The Spear Corps of the Indian Army reported intermittent firing between security forces and the insurgent group throughout the night, with effective retaliation from the security forces.

In another incident, three individuals died and four sustained injuries during a gunfight between two armed groups in Imphal West district. The confrontation occurred in the Kangchup area, lasting from 4 am to 10.30 am. According to the reports, the deceased has been identified as Angom Romesh, Angom Rakesh, and Pukhrambam Nikhil.

Manipur has been experiencing ethnic clashes between the Meiteis and Kukis since May 3, resulting in over 100 fatalities, more than 300 injuries, and the displacement of thousands. The violence in Imphal’s West district coincided with a mob setting fire to an ambulance in the Iroisemba area, causing multiple deaths. The exact number of fatalities in the ambulance incident is yet to be determined. The vehicle was completely destroyed, with only a few bones recovered.

The situation in Manipur remains volatile and calls for immediate attention to restore peace and security in the region. Efforts should be made to address the underlying tensions and promote dialogue among communities to prevent further loss of life and displacement.
