New Delhi: The United States on Monday, changed the travel ban for India from Level 4, which urges citizens not to travel to the significant country, to Level 3, which merely asks the public to reconsider travel.

The official statement read, “Your risk of contracting COVID-19 and developing severe symptoms may be lower if you are fully vaccinated with an FDA authorized vaccine. Before planning any international travel, please review the CDC’s specific recommendations for vaccinated and unvaccinated travelers.”

The United States issued the Level 4 category advisory for India in May this year, which barred people from travelling to the country. The advisory came in the wake of the deadly second wave of coronavirus pandemic that gripped India as it reported more than 400,000 Covid-19 cases during that period.

In the meanwhile, it is also reported that Canada had extended the travel ban on passengers from India for another month. The ban which was earlier supposed to expire on July 21 instead will remain in place until 31st August. Additionally, requirements related to travel to another country via Canada have also been enhanced for travelers from India. Passengers connecting to another point of departure though Canadian territory will be required to have a mandatory pre-departure negative RT-PCR test.
