Astounded by the PMs announcement, Chattisgarh CM Baghel congratulated farmers for “pressuring” the Centre to withdraw the three contentious farm laws, and described the government’s announcement as a victory not only of farmers, but also of democracy over injustice. He cited how the Gandhian’ protest had shown its real strength.
Taking to his microblogging handle, Baghel said “The Gandhian protest has again shown its real strength. I congratulate the farmers for forcing the government to take back the three black farm laws. This is not only the victory of the farmers, but the victory of democracy against injustice.”
The nation was taken by a surprise after PM Modi in his address on the ocassion of Guru Purab announced repealment of the three farm laws. This reconsideration comes months ahead of the crucial elections in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Goa and Manipur.
Since September last year, protests by farmers from several states on major highways in Delhi has emerged as the longest protest in the history of the nation. The farmers have been demanding repealment of the three farm laws- the Farmer’s Produce Trade and Commerce (Promotion and Facilitation) Bill, 2020, and the Farmers (Empowerment and Protection) Agreement of Price Assurance and Farm Services Bill, 2020 that were enacted by President Kovind in 2020.
