CM Bhupesh Baghel urges people to plant saplings on the occasion of World’s Environment day
Chhattisgarh: On Friday, On the occasion of World Environment Day, Chhattisgarh Chief Minister Bhupesh Baghel planted saplings of Guava, Mango and bohar at his residence in Raipur. He also urged people to plant saplings at their homes.
Baghel said in a press statement that “all of you must plant a plant in or around your homes and take responsibility for keeping them alive. It doesn’t matter whether it’s a fruit trees, timber or flower plant, but this will help in fulfilling main purpose of keeping environment green and oxygenated.”
“Chhattisgarh is fortunate that 44 percent of the lands is covered by forests. Our forefathers saved these forests. They understood its importance better. Our identity, our culture and our life are connected to them. If these forests were cut, the temperature would have blotted up in our vicinity” he said.
Addressing the problem of invisible enemy the world is currently facing, Chief minister said “Today, coronavirus infection is spread all over the world, every person is understanding the importance of pure environment at such a time. It is unfortunate that the balance of nature is deteriorating and we are left facing many situation with no cure. Coronavirus has taught us how important environment is for our survival.”
World Environment Day is celebrated on 5 June every year, and is the United Nations’ principal vehicle for encouraging awareness and action for the protection of our environment.
