Corona India: Crosses 2.2 lakhs mark; highest one day spike with 9851 fresh cases
India on Friday reported its highest single-day jump in coronavirus cases in the past 24-hour. As per union health ministry data, India reported 9,851 new cases of coronavirus. The country has also witnessed the highest spike in new deaths with 273 fatalities in the last 24 hours.
Overall, India’s coronavirus cases tally has now surged to 2,26,770, out of which 1,10,960 are active cases and 1,09,462 are the patients who have been recovered from the disease.
Out of 9851, Maharashtra has recorded over 2900 new cases, continued to add the highest number of COVID-19 cases. Tamil Nadu and Delhi are at bottleneck with one another in registering new cases with 1384 and 1359 fresh cases respectively.
The death toll in India reached 6,348. The states recorded 273 fatalities in last 24 hours, the highest toll in a single day since outbreak. Out of 273, Maharashtra alone accounted for 50% of the deaths.

Tamil Nadu continues to struggle in containing the virus as 1384 new positive cases emerged in the state on Thursday. The total number of cases in the state has rose to 27256. The death toll of the state is comparatively lower than many with 220 deaths.
The condition in Delhi has deteriorated in the last 24 hours as 1356 new cases were reported with 44 new deaths, a huge number for Delhi in one day. Delhi is the third state to record over 25,000 coronavirus cases after Maharashtra and Tamil Nadu. Currently, Delhi’s total number of coronavirus cases is 25,004 with 650 death toll.
Although, Rajasthan stands at 5th position in the worst hit state in the country but the active cases in Rajasthan is lower than that in Uttar Pradesh as well indicating a better recovery rate in the former state. Presently, Rajasthan has 9862 total cases of coronavirus with 213 deaths.
On Thursday, UP reported 508 new cases, taking the total tally to 9237. With 16 new fatalities in the state, 245 people have succumbed to the disease till now.
According to the death toll of the states, Maharashtra (2710), Gujarat (513), Delhi (650), Madhya Pradesh (377) and West Bengal (355) continue to be the top 5 states reporting maximum deaths.
Meanwhile, ICMR ramped up the testing capacity for detecting the novel coronavirus in the country. “At least 1,39,485 samples were tested in the last 24 hours. The total number of samples tested thus far is 42,42,718,” the health ministry said on Thursday.
Globally, coronavirus infected over 66 lakh people. More than 3,90,000 people died due to coronavirus infection worldwide. India is at the seventh position among the countries severely affected by coronavirus pandemic.
