A relative of a sanitation worker at the Rashtrapati Bhavan has tested positive for the coronavirus. Although she isn’t an employee at the Rashtrapati Bhavan, she lives in the complex.
The mother of the sanitation worker’s daughter-in-law died of Covid-19 in her village recently and all of the family members had attended her funeral. The family had tested negative for the novel coronavirus. However, the daughter-in-law has tested positive after her results came in on Monday. The first contacts of the family have all tested negative for the virus.
“A Covid-19 positive patient from Central Delhi, who was neither an employee of the President’s Secretariat nor a resident of the President’s Estate, expired on April 13. After contact tracing, it was found that a family member of an employee of the President’s Secretariat had been in contact with the deceased,” the Rashtrapati Bhavan said in a statement.
All the seven members of this family were moved to the quarantine facility at Mandir Marg on April 16, following which, one of the family members who was in contact with the deceased, tested positive, it said.
Following the test result, all 125 staff houses in the Rashtrapati Bhavan complex have been put under quarantine. 25 houses within the same block have been kept under strict isolation. Inhabitants of the other houses in the complex can step out for groceries but are also under isolation.
The death toll due to the coronavirus pandemic in India rose to 590 while the total number of confirmed cases crossed the 18,000 mark to reach 18, 601 according to the latest data by the health ministry. Delhi has reported 2,559 infections so far including 47 deaths and 431 recoveries.
Meanwhile, Arvind Kejriwal, the Chief Minister of Delhi said that his government will conduct Covid-19 mass test on media persons in the national capital, after 53 scribes tested positive for novel coronavirus in Mumbai.
