CWG 2022: Renuka’s Spell Fails to Combat Aussies Strike

Story Highlights
  • Indian women cricket team looses by 3 wickets against Australia.
  • Renuka Singh staged a spectacular feat during the match.
  • India lost momentum after left-arm spin twins Radha Yadav and Rajeshwari Gayakwad gave away wickets.

Indian pacer Renuka Singh’s dream spell failed to achieve the score as the Aussies on Day 1 of CWG came back from the brink to pull off a three-wicket win in group A opener at Edgbaston, Birmingham.

Renuka dismissed Alyssa Healy in the first over of Australia’s innings and followed it up with the wickets of Meg Lanning and Beth Mooney in her second over. Skipper Harmanpreet Kaur decided to continue the young pacer’s spell and the decision paid off as the 26-year-old produced the massive wicket of Tahila McGrath. She ultimately finished the spell with sensational figures that saw her take four wickets in as many overs and concede just 18 runs.

However, India lost the momentum as the left-arm spin twins Radha Yadav (0/42 in 4 overs) and Rajeshwari Gayakwad (0/24 in 2 overs) gave away 66 in six overs between them

Despite India losing by 3 wickets to the Australians at 154/8, the pacers bowling efforts have engraved a mark in the history of first-ever women’s cricket in CGW. The star Indian fast bowler stunned the Australian top-order to record an incredible four-wicket haul with the new ball.
