Indore: Ahead of Rang Panchami procession on Tuesday, Indore Municipal Corporation (MC) on Monday intensified the patchwork of the damaged part of the route as last-minute preparation for ‘Gair’ that is expected to witness participation of at least 1 lakh people. Due to ongoing road widening work between Bada Ganpati Square and Krishnapura Kshatri, IMC and local administration has made some changes in the traditional route of Gair’ that will be taken out after two years of ban due to COVID-19 spread in 2020 and 2021.

IMC Commissioner Pratibha Pal, who on Monday took inspection of the procession’s route, instructed the officials concerned for levelling and asphalting of the potholes on the road between Gorakund square and Ahilyapuri. As part of its preparations, IMC had a few days ago completely/partially demolished as many seven dilapidated and old structures situated on the procession’s route while hoardings of ‘warning notice’ have been erected on 21 remaining dangerous buildings to alert the people.

According to the IMC commissioner, the civic body has constituted an emergency team along with setting up a control room to deal with any untoward incident, accident as well as disaster. The team will work in coordination with local police, which has finalized its plan to deploy at least 2,000 cops to ensure proper safety and security in the procession. The administration has meanwhile warned revellers not to participate in ‘Gair in inebriated conditions to avoid strict actions on them.

Meanwhile, Indore traffic police on Monday issued a plan for the Rang Panchami procession that includes a complete ban on the movement of vehicles in nine lanes situated around Rajwada palace while city buses and loading vehicles won’t be given entry on Jawahar Marg and Rajwada area.
