“Dream”, says Harmanpreet as she Picks up the WPL Trophy

MUMBAI: Mumbai Indians were crowned champions at the inaugural Women’s Premier League (WPL). Captain Harmanpreet Kaur called it a “dream” after Mumbai Indians emerged victorious by a seven-wicket victory against Delhi Capitals in the final to lift the coveted trophy at the Wankhede Stadium on Sunday.

“It has been a great experience, we were waiting for this for so many years. Everyone enjoyed this throughout the dressing room. It feels like a dream, for everyone here,” Harmanpreet said during the post-match presentation.

MI restricted Delhi Capital to 131 overhauling their score by 7 wickets with three balls to spare at the finals of the cash rich tournament. Chasing a target of 132 runs, MI reached 134/4 in 19.3 overs, with Nat Sciver-Brunt smacking an unbeaten knock of 60 runs off 55 balls. Nat Sciver Brunt was awarded as the player of the match for her stupendous performance.

Hayley Matthews picked three wickets for MI to win the Purple Cap. Issy Wong also took three wickets and Amelia Kerr bagged two dismissals.(Women’s Premier League).
