New Delhi: Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman has been admitted to AIIMS Hospital in Delhi on Monday. It has been reported that Sitharaman was kept in the private ward of the hospital. Sitharaman, 63, was taken to the hospital at around 12 noon. According to official sources, the FM is admitted to AIIMS for a routine check-up and a minor stomach infection and is likely to be discharged soon.
Just yesterday, FM Sitharaman paid floral tributes to former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee on his birth anniversary at ‘Sadaiv Atal’ in Delhi. Recently, during a convocation ceremony at a university in Tamil Nadu, the Finance Minister said that India is recognized as the pharmacy of the world as the country produces world-class medicine at an affordable cost. He said that India supplies 50% of the demand for generic drugs in Africa, 40% of generic drugs in the US, and 25% of all drugs in the UK.
During the 35th annual convocation of Tamil Nadu’s Dr. MGR Medical University, she said that India produces about 60% of the global vaccines and 70% of the World Health Organisation’s vaccines for essential immunization schemes. Apparently, these days, the Finance Minister was attending several pre-budget meetings related to the upcoming General Budget 2023. She also participated in several pre-budget meetings with representatives of the business world, which might have taken a toll on the health condition of the minister.
