Sports: After the splendid performance by the Olympic athletes this year, the world is looking forward to India’s performance in the Tokyo Paralympics. In this category, a total of 54 physically challenged athletes will take part in 9 sports disciplines to bring home medals for the country.
As India won 7 medals (including a gold) during the recent Tokyo Olympics, eyes are set for medals in the Paralympics as well. The game is to begin on Aug 24 and will continue till Sept 5. India will start its campaign on Aug 27 in the Tokyo Paralympics game.
Deepa Malik, a former silver medalist of the Paralympics and the acting president of the PCI (Paralympic committee of India) is very confident of India creating history in the game as we send the largest contingent to the game since its inception.
Pointing at the athletes, she says, “That itself depicts how strong the contingent is going to be, especially when we have at least 24 of our 54 athletes in top three rankings in the indigenous local trials within India”. Right from javelin throw to shooting, India has Para-athletes in all categories.
Deepa is also accompanying the athletes in their journey towards winning medals for the country. She further added, “When we talk about Para-badminton, shooting they are seeded in top rankings, so I am very very hopeful that this is a very strong contingent and is going to create history this time. I have worked very hard with the athletes in the role of the president and I am very proud to accompany the athletes”.
She also said that the athletes have been trained as per the current pandemic conditions and that they are ready to take the throne thereon.
