Four New Borns Dead After Fire Broke out at the Pediatric Unit

Bhopal: Four newborns died on Monday night in a fire that broke out at special newborn care unit (SNCU) of Kamla Nehru Children’s Hospital, Bhopal.
The blaze is reported to have swept through the special care unit, sourcing from the wards on the third floor that housed the ICU cabins. “Four children died in the fire that broke out in the special newborn care unit (SNCU) ward probably due to a short circuit. We reached the spot along with others soon after getting information about the incident. It was dark inside the ward. We shifted the children to the adjacent ward,” State Medical Education Minister Vishwas Sarang informed.
The incident was reported around 9 pm, following which a fleet of fire fighters rushed to curb the scavaging fire. As per the information given in there were 40 children in the ward out of which 36 were reloacted and 4 children succumbed.Visuals of the fire tormenting the new borns broke down parents who rushed to rescue their kins from the lamenting flames.
Condoling the loss, CM Chauhan took to Twitter saying, ” We were unable to save three children who were already seriously injured in the fire incident which is very painful. The rescue operation was swift and the blaze is under control, now but unfortunately the lives of three children could not be saved. ” Medical Education Minister Vishwas Sarang informed an ex-gratia of Rs 4 lakh to the kin of the new borns lost.
There have been calls for a high level probe which will be held by additional chief secretary (ACS) health and medical education, Mohammad Suleiman, the CM further tweeted to inform.According to Bhopal Municipal Corporation (BMC) fire officer Rameshwar Neel, an electrical short-circuit is being suspected as the cause of the fire. Furhter details about the incident would be updated after the probe sources reported.
