Raipur: A geotechnical evaluation of Bauxite deposits will be carried out in Chhattisgarh. The Chhattisgarh Council of Science and Technology (CGCOST), Raipur, entered into a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Jawaharlal Nehru Aluminum Research, Development and Design Centre (JNARDDC), Ministry of Mines, Government of India for the project ‘Geotechnical Evaluation of Bauxite Reserves in Chhattisgarh’.
As a part of this project, both the institutes will prepare a district-wise digital database of laterite and bauxite deposits using geo-referenced maps and conduct a geotechnical assessment of bauxite and laterite deposits located in Chhattisgarh with the help of space technology. The agreement was signed by COST and Regional Science Centre director-general Dr S Karmakar and JNARDDC director Dr Anupam Agnihotri.
The aluminium industry is facing a shortage of good grade raw ore and bauxite mining industries use aluminium in various forms and processes. This project will benefit the industry, a government release said. The press release added that the entrepreneurs dealing in bauxite and laterite ores, the existing mine owners and bauxite industries located in Chhattisgarh and Central India will also be benefited.
The database obtained from the state’s new remote sensing technology and GIS can be used in any existing mining companies and aluminium industries. CGCOST scientist E-] – MK Beg, scientist Dr Wasim Raza, project scientist Yudhveer Singh, and principal scientist, JNARDDC, Ministry of Mines, Government of India, were among those present.
