India Records 35,342 cases; Over 100 infected in Olympics Games

New Delhi: India recorded 35,342 fresh infections in the past 24 hours, the Union Health Ministry reported. Meanwhile, The COVID-19 cases associated with the Olympic Games breached the 100-mark on Friday.

.The recovery rate at 97.36 percent accounted for 3,8,740 recuperations in the last 24 hours taking the total recoveries to 3,04,68,079. The daily positivity rate stood at 2.12 per cent, less than 3 per cent for 32 consecutive days.

The active caseload stands at 4, 05,513 accounting for 1.30 per cent of the total number of cases. 3,881 active cases were reported in the last 24 hours. However, the mortality rate recorded at 1.34 per cent reported 483 fatalities, taking the cumulative death toll to 4,19,470.

Over 42 crore vaccine doses have been administered in the country so far, the health ministry said. More than 54.76 lakh vaccine doses were administered on Thursday, it reported.

 The testing capacity substantially ramped up after ICMR tested 16,68,561 infected samples in the past 24 hours. So far, 45.29 crore samples have been tested.

Sources report, a study by Sir Ganga Ram Hospital in Delhi has found unusually large and multiple liver abscesses in COVID-19 patients treated with steroids. Meanwhile, Tokyo Olympics village crossed the 100 mark on Friday. Athletes from the Czech contingent are reported to be the most affected.

The COVID-19 cases associated with the Olympic Games breached the 100-mark on Friday with the announcement of 19 new infections and the Czech contingent seemed among the worst hit after a fourth athlete — road cyclist Michal Schlegel — tested positive for the virus.

The Tokyo Olympic organisers, in their daily COVID-19 update, announced that three athletes, 10 Games-concerned personnel, three mediapersons and as many contractors associated with the event have been found positive.

The total number of cases directly linked to the Games stood at 106 on Friday with 11 of them athletes.
