Instagram Faces Outage for Second Time in a Week

Story Highlights
  • Instagram faced a short lived outage on Friday evening.
  • Facebook acknowledged the outage and apologized on twitter.
  • Nearly 14,000 users faced issues.

Facebook-owned photo-sharing app Instagram went down on Friday evening. This came as the second outage in a week.  Services were reported to be back in a rather short span unlike the recent outage of all Facebook-owned social media apps that took 6 hours to return to normalcy. According to Downdetector around 14,000 users reported issues related to Instagram on Friday evening. However, the outage wasn’t evident in India.

Taking to Twitter Facebook, apologized for the inconvenience of the second outage in a week. “We’re aware that some people are having trouble accessing our apps and products. We’re working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible and we apologize for any inconvenience. We’re so sorry if you weren’t able to access our products during the last couple of hours. We know how much you depend on us to communicate with one another. We fixed the issue — thanks again for your patience this week,” Facebook posted on Twitter.

Facebook has been going the hill for the past few months, with the recent global outage of the conglomerate app company for nearly 6 hours. In an explanation posted the day after, Facebook said the backbone connecting the company’s data centres around the world was inadvertently shut down. The outage was extensive enough that it even broke internal systems used by Facebook employees, forcing them to turn to company-provided Outlook accounts to communicate instead.
