IPL Mega Auction: Shreyas Iyer the Highest Bid so far Joins KKR
- IPL mega auction begins in Bengaluru.
- Shikar Dhawan was the first player to be auctioned.
- A tough bidding battle took place to rope in Shreyas Iyer.
Shikar Dhawan became the first player to be sold for Rs 8.25 crore as Punjab Kings won their contra bid against Delhi Capitals. Next in line came R. Ashwin, an Indian spinner who was taken by Rajasthan Royals for Rs 5 crore and once again the DC franchise lost a marquee player.
Shreyas Iyer emerged as a star player after three franchises bid aggressively to rope him. At last, he was taken by the KKR for Rs 12.5 crore which stood as the highest bidding so far. New entrants Lucknow and Ahmedabad came on the field with Lucknow taking Quinton de Knock from CSK who bid Rs 2.20 crore. The African wicketkeeper was roped in by the KL Rahul team for Rs 6.75 core.
Another South African champion, Faf du Plessis was sold to RCB for Rs 7 crore. This seemed a good buy for the franchise as they needed someone to replace AB de Villiers. Faf has been a part of the winning CSK in IPL 2021 so the team expects a tinge of expertise on field.
IPL 2022 mega auction is being held in Bengaluru for two days starting from today. As many as 590 players have been shortlisted to go under the hammer. Teams with a maximum purchase of Rs 561.5 crore headed towards firming their squads for the 15th season of the franchise match.
