Iran: 450 “Rioters” Held for Anti-hijab Agitation

Iran: Authorities in a northern Iran province have arrested 450 people during more than 10 days of protests following a young Kurdish woman’s death in morality policy custody, state media reported Monday.

Photos shared by the local news agency also highlighted agitators in Qom, a holy Shiite city located 150 kilometres (90 miles) south of the national capital.

The northern province’s chief prosecutor, Mohammad Karimi, informed the official news agency Iran said- “450 rioters have been detained in Mazandaran since the protest have started.”

Hundreds of demonstrators, reformist activists and journalists have been arrested during the mostly night-time demonstrations across the country since unrest first broke out after Young Kurdish women Mahsa Amini’s death was announced on September 16.

On September 24, authorities in the Guilan province were also informed about the arrest of 739 people, which included 60 women. Iran’s judiciary chief, Gholamhossein Mohseni Ejei, on Sunday “stressed on the need for decisive action without showing any mercy” against those who instigated the “riots,” the judiciary’s Mizan Online website stated.
