Jammu and Kashmir: After a week-long search operation in the Uri sector of Jammu and Kashmir for terrorists who infiltrated from across the Line of Control, there was an exchange of fire on Saturday evening, confirming their presence in the dense forests. One Indian soldier was injured but was out of danger, sources said. There was information of armed terrorists in the Uri sector on September 18th, which was followed by cordon and search operations fearing a massive infiltration bid. The fresh infiltration bid prompted the authorities to suspend mobile and internet services.

The infiltration attempt was the first in the area since the Uri attack in 2016. Incidentally, the recent infiltration bid took place on the anniversary of the deadly terror strike that took place barely a few meters away from the brigade headquarters. After the operation, the army seized 5 AK rifles, 8 pistols, 69 grenades including ones of Chinese and Pakistani make, 2 improvised explosive devices and Indian currency worth Rs. 35,000.

After foiling the infiltration bid, Major Gen. Virendra Vats in a statement said, “It is difficult to believe that the infiltration by such a heavily armed group, can take place without the connivance of local Pakistan military commanders.” “There has been a spurt in infiltration activities in the recent past and the present infiltration bid comes close on the heels of a similar attempt in Uri Sector few days back,” the statement added.
