The event occurred on the Jalandhar-Phagwara route in Dhanewali village. Locals then stopped vehicles and blocked the highway, resulting in traffic gridlock. Jalandhar Cantt was also shut down, causing massive traffic jams. On the highway, a group of protesters sat on a dharna protesting the incident.
A white Brezza car is seen mowing down the two girls on CCTV footage. When the girls saw the car approaching, they took a step back, but the car still slammed into them. The vehicle was being driven by police inspector Amrit Pal Singh, who was alone in the car, and he has been arrested, according to ADCP 1 Jalandhar Suhail Mir. Jalandhar Police Commissioner Naunihal Singh, speaking about the massive traffic congestion, said, “Traffic jams were formed on the highway as a result of citizens halting traffic following the incident.
