Rohit Sharma is set to miss the last test match after testing positive for COVID- 19. Mayank Aggarwal will replace him as the opener. The big announcement came just moments ahead of the skipper’s press conference on the eve of the match. The Birmingham Test will witness a new skipper leading his side with a young vice-captain.
Bumrah will be the first fast bowler to lead India in a Test match after Kapil Dev. He will be the 36th Test Captain of India. Meanwhile, Virat Kohli-led India had earlier taken a 2-1 lead against England last year. The final test was called off due to the COVID- 19 outbreak in the Indian squad.
The All India Senior Selection Committee took this decision on Thursday making Bumrah the head of the squad. So far Bumrah has played 129 tests where he has taken 123 wickets including eight five-wicket hauls.
