Kishore Swamy Jailed in TN CM Stalin Defamation Case
Chennai, Tamil Nadu: Kishore K Swamy, an accused in the defamation case against Tamil Nadu Chief Minister MK Stalin has been sent to judicial custody till December 5. Swamy was accused of posting derogatory tweets against CM Stalin. The Egmore criminal court ordered Swamy to be sent to Puzhal jail in Chennai district. Social media commentator Swamy was arrested by the Chennai City Police and he is slapped with 7 cases.
The Chennai police said, “Kishore K Swamy has been posting political comments on social media. Kishore K Swamy, who has a pro-BJP stance, has been consistently critical of the DMK and its supporting parties. Political critic Kishore K Swamy was arrested and jailed in June under the Gangster Act in 7 cases of defamatory comments against DMK’s former Chief Ministers and journalists.”
Kishore Swamy is a BJP supporter and has been making political comments on social media. DMK and its supporters have been continuously criticizing the parties. Complainant Imran had alleged in the complaint made to the Central Crime Branch that Swamy tried to defame the CM. After investigation, the Crime Branch registered a case against Swamy under four sections including defamation, and sedition, and summoned him for questioning.
Instead of appearing on the summons, Swamy filed a petition in the sessions court in Chennai seeking anticipatory bail. His petition was rejected by the court. After this Swamy was arrested and presented in the court of Egmore. The court sent him to jail till 5 December.
Swamy criticized the Stalin government over the Coimbatore car blast. A youth named Jamisha Mubeen, the alleged human bomb was killed in the blast. Swamy also criticized CM Stalin over the waterlogging and floods in several cities of Tamil Nadu including Chennai.
