Lakhimpur Case SIT Submits Report- Told UP Govt Twice to Cancel Mishra’s Bail
- SIT submitted status report to SC.
- Stated it urged the UP govt twice to scrap prime accused- Ashish Mishra’s bail plea.
- 99 witnesses recorded statements during investigation.
New Delhi: The SIT filed its status report in the Lakhimpur Kheri case- where farmers were mowed down by an SUV owned by a minister’s son. In the report, it said that the SIT constituted to probe the killings had recommended the cancellation of the bail granted to prime accused Ashish Mishra twice to the Uttar Pradesh government.
According to media reports, prime accused Jr Mishra was on the spot, well aware of the change in the route taken by Deputy CM Keshav Prasad Maurya on October 3rd when the incident took place.
“The head of SIT wrote to the Additional Chief Secretary, Home Department, Uttar Pradesh on 10.02.2022 and 14.02.2022 respectively requesting an urgent appeal in the Hon’ble Supreme Court for cancellation of bail of the accused in view of the ongoing investigation and possibility of the threat to the witnesses including 98 witnesses who are provided protection,” said the committee.
“It is also substantiated that the 13 accused (and three dead accused) went to the scene of the crime in a premeditated manner, using three vehicles in a convoy and driving them at a very high speed on a narrow road which was full of people gathered to protest,” the report added.
During the course of the investigation around 99 witnesses were recorded. Out of these 79 belonged to District Lakhimpur and the remaining were natives of the neighbouring districts. The witnesses were provided security throughout it informed.
