Madhya Pradesh’s Burhanpur Becomes First ‘Har Ghar Jal’ Certified District in the Country

Madhya Pradesh’s Burhanpur district became the first Har Ghar Jal certified district country, the Ministry Jal Shakti said in a statement on Friday. As per the stats issued by the ministry 37,241rural households (36.54 per cent) out of a total of 1,01,905 households in Burhanpur had potable drinking water through tap connections at the time of the launch of the Jal Jeevan Mission on 15th August 2019.

The project worth Rs 11,000 crore was approved by the public health engineering department of the Chauhan govt. Under this scheme, every household in 18 districts of the state would be provided tap water which would count for more than 9.3 lakh families of 6261 villages.

“These schemes will fulfil drinking water needs of more than 71 lakh rural population of Bhopal, Vidisha, Raisen, Ujjain, Mandsaur, Neemuch, Ratlam, Chhindwara, Mandla, Khargone, Khandwa, Betul, Sagar, Damoh, Tikamgarh, Chhatarpur, Datia and Shivpuri districts,” a statement issued by the government said.

PM Narendra Modi congratulating the people of Burhanpur on Friday said РCongratulations to my sisters and brothers of Burhanpur for this remarkable accomplishment. This would not have been possible without a collective spirit among the people and mission mode efforts by the JJM Team and the MP Government under @ChouhanShivraj Ji.

So far, more than 51.51 rural families across the state have been provided water under the Jal Jeevan Mission.
