Guwahati: Terrorists ambushed an Assam Rifles Colonel, his wife and eight-year-old boy, as well as four soldiers, near the Myanmar border in Manipur. The terror attack, which was one of the deadliest in recent memory in the region, occurred at 11 a.m. in Manipur’s Churachandpur district. Colonel Viplav Tripathi, the Commanding Officer of the 46 Assam Rifles, had gone to a forward camp on Saturday and was returning when his convoy was ambushed.

The Assam Rifles said in a statement, “Five soldiers including Colonel Viplav Tripathi, Commanding Officer of 46 Assam Rifles, have made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty. The family of the Commanding Officer – wife and child – also lost their lives. DG and all ranks of Assam Rifles offer condolences to the brave soldiers and families.”

The tragedy occurred near Sehken village, police said, when heavily armed terrorists opened fire on the Assam Rifles Colonel’s convoy, killing him, his wife, their son, and four QRT jawans on the scene. According to police sources, the attack was carried out by the Manipur-based terrorist group People’s Liberation Army, or PLA, however no group has claimed credit. To apprehend the terrorist, police and security personnel have begun a huge search operation.

N Biren Singh, the Chief Minister of Manipur, denounced the brutal attack and stated that state and paramilitary troops are already on the lookout for the militants.
