Native of Jamnagar Infected with Omicron, Third Confirmed case in India

Gujarat: The third case of Omicron has been reported in India from Gujarat. Reportedly, the individual is a resident of Zimbabwe who arrived at Gujarat on November 28th for a personal visit.
As per the information given by the health department, the 72-year-old, native of Jamnagar city complained of fever was advised an RT-PCR citing his stay at South Africa that has been flagged under the nations ‘at-risk’. On testing positive for COVID-19,the samples of infected individual were sent for genome sequencing to Biotechnological Research lab in Ahmedabad. The individual has been shifted to Guru Gobind Singh Govt hospital in Jamnagar for further treatment. Authorities have engaged a contact tracing team as per protocols.
India reported its first Omicron COVID case on Thursday in a passenger who arrived in Karnataka from the nation ‘at risk’. Following which a healthcare worker from the same state was reportedly infected with the ferocious strain. So far, 10 COVID cases across Mumbai, Delhi, Chandigarh are suspected to be infected with the new mutation. All of them have been isolated, until their samples yield genome sequencing results conventional COVID treatment is being administered to them.
