Olympics: India’s Men and Women Hockey Teams Make Historic Semis

New Delhi: PV Sindhu scripted history for India as she defeated He Bing Jiao of China on Sunday as she defeated He Bing Jiao 21-13 and 21-15 in the Bronze medal match. Meanwhile, Indian men’s hockey team etched history by reaching the Olympic semi-finals after 49 years cruising past Great Britain 3-1.

Sindhu became the first Indian woman to win two individual Olympic medals. She was cynical throughout the contest, not giving her opponent any chance to win the match.

Satish Kumar, India’s first ever entrant into men’s super heavy category made a valiant effort against Uzbekistan’s Bakhodir Jalolov but lost at 0-5.

An eventful day came to an end with Indian perspective as India got its second Olympic medal in 2020 and with that the Rio tally has been surpassed.

Meanwhile,  the Indian women’s hockey team registered one of its biggest wins in history by starting Monday with a stunning 1-0 win over three-time champions Australia 1-0 to reach their maiden semifinals in women’s hockey at the Olympics in Tokyo.

India now pins its hope of a maiden athletic medal on Kamalpreet Kaur who will be seen in action at the women’s discus throw finals.
