New Delhi: PM Narendra Modi laid the foundation stone of the 594 Km Ganga Expressway in UP’s Shahjahanpur district today. Starting at the Bijauli village in Meerut, the expressway extends to the Judapur Dandu Village in Pragyaraj. The expressway spread across Hapur, Bulandshahr, Amroha, Sambhal, Budaun, Shahjahanpur, Hardoi, Unnao, Rae Bareli, Pratapgarh and Prayagraj districts of the state. Addressing the gathering, PM Modi said, ” The modern infrastructure coming up in UP today shows how resources are utilised. You have seen how public’s money was used earlier. But today, UP’s money is being used for UP’s development. Earlier, big projects were started on paper so that they can fill their own coffers.”
This expressway is deemed to be the longest one in the state, bridging the distance between the western and eastern portions. The centre has issued an outlay of Rs 36,230 crore for the six-lane expressway which is expandable to eight lanes. Additionally, a 3.5 km long airstrip is also included in the blueprint of the expressway. The airstrip is designed for emergency landing and take off for the IAF jets.
The multicrore infrastructure project is proposed to boost the socio-economic development of the region forming an industrial corridor creating numerous jobs and several new opportunities for thousands of youth.
