Rains to Continue Wreaking Havoc in Chennai

New Delhi: The IMD has issued heavy rainfall and thunderstorm alert across Tamil Nadu. Releasing a notice on an observation at 5:30 hours today, it stated that the cyclonic circulation over Southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining equatorial Indian Ocean lay over southeast Bay of Bengal and adjoining south Andaman Sea, extending up to 5.8 Km above mean sea level. Under its Influence, a low pressure area is very likely to form over southeast Bay of Bengal and neighbourhood during next 24 hours. It is likely to become more marked over the same region during the subsequent 24 hrs and move west-northwestwards and reach near north Tamilnadu on 11 November.

The IMD has alerted a downpour with heavy to very heavy rainfall at a few places and extremely heavy rain at isolated places likely over north coastal Tamilnadu and south coastal Andhra Pradesh and heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places over Kerala & Mahe and Rayalaseema during 10th-11th November, 2021.Fishermen have been instructed not to venture into into southeast Bay of Bengal during 09th-10th and over southwest Bay of Bengal and along Tamilnadu and adjoining Andhra Pradesh coast during 10th-11th November, 2021.

Squally wind speed reaching 45-55 kmph gusting to 65 kmph is likely to prevail over eastcentral Arabian Sea during next 12 hours till 08 November evening and decrease marginally thereafter becoming 40-50 kmph gusting to 60 kmph over eastcentral & adjoining westcentral Arabian Sea for subsequent 12 hours.

The Chennai Corporation has installed pump sets in 500 locations to remove the logged water. Furthermore , 1,00,000 food packets were also distributed for breakfast today. Relief camps providing food, shelter and medical care have been set up in the city. On request of the state govt, two NDRF teams have been deputed in Madurai district, one each in Chennai, Chengalpattu and Thiruvallur districts, and additional teams have been put on alert.
