Story Highlights
  • Raipur Collector appeals to the parents to pay the fee on time
  • Directed private institutions to curtail from denying access to students in case of payment delay
  • Nodal Officer to convene with parents and school administration to address fee issues

Raipur: With the next academic year (2021-22) set to start from July, the fees issue is once again in news. While parents demand a concession in fee, schools have unambiguously denied concession. In a meeting chaired by the new Collector of Raipur, Saurabh Kumar on Monday, all private schools have been instructed to allow access to students even if they fail to pay fee on time.

Zilla Panchayat CEO Mayank Chaturvedi, MLA Vikas Upadhyay, MLA Anita Sharma, District Education Officer AN Banjara, Chhattisgarh Private School Management Association President Rajiv Gupta addressed issues confronted by the students and their parents during the pandemic. The collector appealed to the public to pay the said amount of fee so that the school could operate efficiently.

Mahendera Singh Hora of the Government YMS Foundation expressed concern over the financial instability of the families attributed to the pandemic.  “The second wave has been worse than the first. Many have either lost jobs or faced pay cuts. So, we demand that the schools offer fee concessions,” said a parent. Another parent said, it looks like classes would be online for most part of the academic year. “So, if the students are sitting at home and listening in, why should we pay the full fee as we are not using the school’s infrastructure? The government should step in and broker a fee concession formula,” she said.

To address the context of fee waivers, an additional meeting between the nodal officers, school management and parents has been proposed. The school administration will be furnished with the contact details of the nodal officer, following which the parents can directly contact the nodal officers for further queries.
