Rupee Plunges by 10 Paise, Closes at 82.75 per Dollar

MUMBAI: The Indian Rupee depreciated by 10 paise to 82.75 against the US dollar in early trade on Thursday amid negative trends in the domestic as well as global equity markets and continued outflow of foreign funds.

At the interbank foreign exchange, the domestic unit opened weaker at 82.77 against the US dollar and traded in the range of 82.80 and 82.71. Later, the domestic unit was trading at 82.75 against the greenback, registering a fall of 10 paise.

The dollar index — which measures the American currency against the yen, the pound, the Canadian dollar, the Swedish krona, the Swiss franc, and the euro — was last trading 0.1 percent lower at 104.2. Crude oil prices slipped early on Thursday as the market remained under pressure, hitting as low as 15-month lows in the previous session. Brent crude futures were trading 0.8 percent higher at $74.3 per barrel at the last count. WTI futures too were trading 0.7 percent higher at $68.1 per barrel at the last count.

Gold in the national capital surged by Rs 380 to Rs 57,450 while Silver dropped by Rs 90 to Rs 66,535 per kg.
