Rupee Settles at 82.73 Drops by 19 Paise
MUMBAI: The Indian Rupee depreciated by 15 paise to close at 82.73 (provisional) against the US currency on Monday amidst crude oil prices further denting investor sentiments.
At the interbank foreign exchange market, the rupee opened at 82.68 against the greenback and fell to an intra-day low of 82.77. It finally settled at 82.73 (provisional), down 15 paise over its previous close.
The dollar index, which gauges the greenback’s strength against a basket of six currencies, was trading 0.15 percent higher at 103.78. Global oil benchmark Brent crude futures declined 1.19 percent to USD 85.36 per barrel.
Meanwhile, India recouped the fifth position among the world’s top equity markets by being usurped by France during a sell off of Adani Group Shares. On Friday, India’s market capitalization stood at $3.15 trillion inching back above France with the UK retaining its seventh place.
Gold price jumped Rs 114 to Rs 56,982 per 10 grams in the national capital. On the contrary, Silver dropped by Rs 319 to Rs 66,802 per kilogram.
