Sydney: Sri Lanka batter Danushka Gunathilaka has been charged by the Australian Police after an alleged sexual assault in Sydney east. The police investigation reports that a 29-year old woman had been sexually assaulted at a residence in Rose Bay in earlier this week. He was arrested in the early hours of Sunday morning from the team hotel in Sydney’s central business district.
“The woman met with the man after communicating with him for a number of days via online dating application, it’s alleged he then sexually assaulted her on the evening of Wednesday 2 November 2022”, said new South Wales Police Statement.
The left handed batter has played more than 100 international matches for Sri Lanka including the opening match of T20 World Cup 2022 against Nambia that they lost. Th arrest took place after Gunatilleke was with Sri Lankan team in Sydney playing against England. Sri Lankan team has left Colombo this morning without Dhanushka Gunatilleke as scheduled.
