State Govt Procures 18,000 Quintals Millet at MSP

RAIPUR: To promote coarse cereals, the state government has procured 18,000 quintals of millet at MSP.  Making Chhattisgarh the only state where Kodo, Kutki, and Ragi are being procured at MSP. Under the guidance of Forest Minister Mohammed Akbar 18,000 quintals of Kodo, Kutki, and Ragi from farmers at MSP.

As per the officials from the forest department, the procured Millets are worth Rs 5.60 crore. An official communique informed that Kodo is being procured at Rs 30 per kg while Kutki and Ragi are being bought at Rs 31 and Rs 35.78 per kg. As per the data shared by the department, the 18,000 quintals procured by the Primary Forest Produce Cooperative Societies of the State Minor Forest Produce Federation include 15,889 quintals of Kodo, 793 quintals of Kutki, and 1,646 quintals of Ragi. Kodo, Kutki, and Ragi crops.

In Jan 2021, the Bhupesh Baghel govt announced to procure millets at MSP to help the tribals and other farmers of the state. In 2021-22, 5,273 tons of millet worth Rs 16.03 crore was procured at the support price.

The state govt this year targets to procure 13,005 tons of millet worth Rs 39.60 crore at MSP. The procurement will continue until February 15th, 2023.

In December 2020, the Chhattisgarh government had decided to procure seven more forest produce from the tribals of the state.

The seven new minor forest produce that were added to the list of forest produce procured at minimum support price by the state government includes Kusmi seed, Reetha fruit (dry), Shikakai, Satavar roots, Kaju Guthli, Malkangani seeds, and Mahul leaves
