Abu Dhabi: In a recent development towards precaution from the spread of the novel virus, the UAE government has discarded the ‘Visa on Arrival’ facility for passengers from India and also those who have been in India for the past two weeks.

In response to the suspension, the flag airways of the nation, Etihad tweeted, “The UAE Authorities have decided to temporarily suspend the Visa on Arrival facility for passengers who are arriving from or been in India for the past 14 days. We’re working to update our website, please keep an eye on https://t.co/hWA7ZGfiaF for the latest regulations.”

The authorities had implied similar rules to passengers arriving from Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, Pakistan, Nepal, Afghanistan, Uganda, South Africa, and Namibia among other countries.

“Indian citizens holding regular passports with US visas, green cards, UK Resident Permits, or EU Resident permits are allowed to receive entry visa upon arrival to UAE valid for 14 days and can be extended only once for a similar period,” The website of UAE Embassy posted. It further added that the Indian Passport, US visa, green card, UK resident permit and EU resident permit must be valid for at least six months.

Last week, Etihad Airways had said that Indians with a visa or residence permit issued by the US, UK or an EU Member State could visit Abu Dhabi.

Earlier in August, Emirates had announced that UAE residents flying in from India and five other nations are no longer required to present a COVID-19 vaccination certificate for entry. All passengers with a valid UAE residence visa are allowed to travel to and through Dubai from India, Nepal, Nigeria, Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Uganda, provided they have a valid COVID-19 test certificate issued within 48 hours between the time of sample collection and scheduled flight departure.
