UK’s Home Sec Suella Braverman Steps Down Over ‘accidental’ National Security Breach

London: Embattled British PM Liz Truss loses second Minister in a week. UK home secretary Suella Braverman has quit her post amid the political and economic turmoil in Britain, saying that she had breached government rules.

In her letter Suella tweeted, she cited “technical infringement of rules” pertaining to an email she sent to “trusted parliamentary colleague”. She said that she had sent a draft written ministerial statement on migration, which was due for publication. “Much of it was briefed to MPs.Nevertheless, it is right for me to go,” Braverman wrote to the PM.

The resignation marks the second departure of a senior minister in PM Liz Truss’s Cabinet in less than a week. On October 14, Kwasi Kwarteng was removed as the finance minister to be replaced by Jeremy Hunt.

Suella’s statement on taking responsibility for her mistakes comes at a time when Truss is facing criticism for her economic decisions that left the markets in panic and has shrugged off hints to demit office.

Braverman’s departure would likely threaten the stability of the Conservative government, which has been striving to put up a brave face following mini-budget U-turns and economic turmoil.
