The monsoons are no good for mountain regions like Uttarakhand or Himachal for the danger of landslides. Recently, reports of landslides from different places of HP came to light where it caused a few casualties as well.

The latest in the count is Tehri Garhwal district in Uttarakhand where the heavy rains led to the blockage of two national highways. The NH 94 and the NH 58 have been picked as boulders and rubbles fell on the road due to heavy rainfalls. The adjoining roads also show signs of crack that can prove fatal for commuters.

A local from the area said, “From Thursday we have been facing the situation yet the concerned administration has not yet made any arrangements. The mountain areas are very much dangerous and local people are having trouble commuting from the place”, as reported by a leading daily.

A major portion of a road near Phakot of National Highway 94 has been washed off due to the heavy rains in the area. Iva Ashish Srivastava, the district magistrate of Tehri Garhwal inspected the area. “NH 58 and 94 are closed, the situation is bad in the alternate routes too. Only one route is functional for now. Efforts are underway to clear the routes. The officers concerned are present at the spot and making continuous efforts”, he said.

The safety of any tourists present in the nearby areas or commuting through the roadways is the primary concern of the government authorities as of now. Heavy machines have been called in for carrying out the boulder cleaning procedure in the area. While the commuters take a different route for transport, the Chamba-Mussoorie road sees a spike in traffic jams.
