Did you know, the Nightingale of India once named records to herself in the world-famous Guinness Book of world records. Apparently, it is said that in the year 1972, the Padma Bhushan awardee was listed as the most recorded artist in history with estimated 25,000 songs. The organization claimed the singing legend had recorded not less than 25,000 songs from 1948 to 1974. Their list of songs comprised of solo’s duets and chorus backed pieces in 20 Indian languages.

However, this record by the organization was challenged by then famous legendary singer Rafi Sahab. It is said that Rafi Sahab had contradicted the organization’s findings and claimed that he had sung more than 28,000 songs. Yet the world record naming body didn’t discard Didi’s achievement, instead included Rafi’s claim as a special mention.

Later in 1991, the legendary singer was again recognized by the Guinness Book of World Records as the most recorded artist with a count of 30,000 songs. A few days later the organization removed the singing legend’s achievements. Currently, her younger sister Alka Bhosle has been named for ‘Most studio recordings- singles’.
